How to sleep
like Oil (Part 1)
Sleeplessness, generally speaking, is an adult
problem. Infants sleep 22 out of 24 hours each day.
By the age 3 a child sleeps 11 hours at night and
another 2 hours during the day. As he grows older he
tends to sleep less and less. It has been observed
that under 50 the problem is usually in falling
asleep; past 50, waking up too often or too early.
This is one reason why sleeping pills are so
popular today. In fact, it’s estimated that 20
million people in the US alone are troubled with
insomnia.
If you happen to be a member of the Insomniacs’
Club, here are some suggestions which you might want
to try:
- Have a regular time for going to bed. Your
body tends to respond better to a habitual
program rather than an irregular one.
- End your day on a low key. Avoid reading
exciting mystery stories or watching the late,
late TV shows. If you are planning to quarrel
with somebody, postpone it until the following
day, or better cancel it altogether!
- Eat a light supper or, better yet, skip it
completely if you can. But don’t miss your
evening meal only for you to eat a heavy noche
buena at midnight. If you eat a heavy banquet
before bedtime, you’ll most likely dream dreams
and see visions and you would not know the
interpretation thereof the following morning!
- Take a brief leisurely walk around the
block. This will help unwind your tight muscles.
- Take a warm bath before going ton bed. Wash
away not only the libang from your skin but also
stress and tension from your mind.
If you are at peace with your fellowmen it will
be much easier for you to fall asleep at night. If
you have not defrauded or angered any man, and you
earn an honest day’s wage, sleep will come naturally
to your tired body. And don’t forget that the best
pillow at night which will assure you a good night’s
sleep is a clear conscience.
