Twenty five participants attended the NEWSTART health
program held at the premise of Adventist Community health Centre,
Petaling Jaya Branch (ACC-PJ) on 26th July 2009. This was the first
to be conducted in ACC-PJ. Mostly attended by common people referred
to by friends, the participants arrived even before 9AM, having
fasted from 10 PM for their Health Risk Assessment (HRA) test which
included fasting Glucose & cholesterol, BMI & Body Fat check, waist
girth measurement, step test and answering a series of Lifestyle
questionnaire. These parameters are important in order to analyze
the areas of health that each participant needs to improve on.
Aside from enjoying the health screening, the program
also consisted of health lectures and demonstration following the
NEWSTART delivered by the ACC team which included Jane Yap, Rose
Solano, Osward Manungo and Dr. Pang.
The health team and volunteers from PJ worked hand in
hand for the success of this program. As one participant puts it; “I
am glad I attended this, it is very informative and very helpful for
me and my family too.”
Since ACC-PJ Branch’s conception last year, the centre
has hosted a series of Health programs open to the public, including
cooking classes, health lectures, health screening, Healthy Buffet
lunches and Exercise sessions.
