“Many of today’s chronic diseases are due to our lifestyle,” so
says Dr. Phang Chu Yen, a Preventive Health Specialist, during her
one-hour lecture on “Foods that heal, Foods that harm” among sixty
or so participants at the program held for the company’s
secretaries at their Training Centre.

After the lecture, the eager participants were ushered into the
healthy cooking demo, in which an array of different spread made
from the finest and most healthy ingredients were on display and
ready to be tested. Recipes consisted of Bruschetta, an appetizer
originated from Italy, which consisted of olive oil, tomatoes,
garlic & oregano, over a slice of toasted French bread. Also on
display was the all-so natural Caribbean salad, a combination of
romaine lettuce, cucumber, grapes and oranges tossed on a
delightful vinaigrette dressing, the most popular of all was a
natural cheese made from cashew nuts, a wonderful dip for any
party starters; last but not least was a refreshing drink of pina
colada – made from coconut milk, pineapple, and banana – all
blended into perfection.
