Healthy Lifestyle Program (05 - 12 May 2009)

For the 5th time in as many months ACC has conducted training to some of the Public Bank employees from various departments. The Healthy Lifestyle Program (HLP) which covers all the NEWSTART concepts is a whole day program designed specially for working population to improve their health status and enhance work productivity in companies. This is a new approach being introduced to companies to teach their employees how to prevent falling sick whereas traditionally an employees will fall sick then only the employer will take care of them.

The most recent of the five visits to Public bank comprised employees from the clerical/cashier & Officers’ department, from various branches across the country. Over the course of one week, the ACC Health team conducted the program for 62 employees. The program started at 9am with the participants filling a health questioner to evaluate their lifestyle. Thereafter participants went through a series of health screening and blood tests before completing a 3-minute fitness test. About mid-morning the program went into lecture time until lunch break. The lectures were fitted with sessions of interaction discussions and activities to make them interesting and beneficial to the participants. A cooking class was conducted just after lunch with four recipes unmistakably enjoyed by all.

To culminate the lectures a painstaking interpretation of results was done. Here participants can refer to their computer generated results based on the screenings done in the morning. Questions are asked and the doctor responds to all the questions, giving advice and recommendations for improving health status. At about 4:30pm the atmosphere was still alight with excitement as participants were discovering some valuable keys to improve their health. But as the saying goes, “what soar must land”, it was time for the eagle to perch on a high note. After completing the evaluation, the participants were ready for Charobix exercise. The sweating and the muscle aches were not good reason to stop the eager employees from enjoying the exercise to the last step.

As the clock ticked 5pm the program was wrapped with unquestionable satisfaction. According to the evaluation, majority of the participants did not only enjoy the program but they benefited greatly. As to the question whether this program should be conducted again, the answers were unanimous in the positive.
