The planned activities for Smart Method Kids took in Ampang Jaya. The
program designed for kids ranging from 3-6years old was spread over
two days and attended by 36 kids on each day.
On the first day, the program covered the skeletal system and the
general anatomy of the human body. Emphasis was given on the
importance of vital body organs and how lifestyle and diet affect the
individual health of each organ. There was also a perusal on the uses
of oxygen in our body, and the need to breathe clean and fresh air.
The skeleton is a defence framework of bones that help to protect
vital body organs from damage and collapse. It also aids locomotion
and support.
Given these functions, kids were given a simple yet comprehensive
teaching on the bones and what to eat in order to make bones healthy
and strong. After the brief lectures it was time for some action. The
action song introduced to the kids gave them chance to rhythmically
and effectively exercise their bodies, which according to observation
most kids are sedentary.
To wrap up the day the kids were guided through a series of
flexibility exercises that included cart wheeling, somersault and
standing on hands.
Day two was busier as the kids were taught how to select food
according to the food guide pyramid. When it was time to plan the
sample meal using food models the room was filled with excitement
which would soon become commotion if the teachers did not step up
their appeal for kids to calm down. The kids were very cooperative and
quick to master instructions.
When the program shifted to pizza making the results were astonishing.
The pita bread was set for each kid and pizza sauce was provided to
dress the bread prior to topping with five choices of nutritious
condiments. In a special way, each kid demonstrated varying degree of
creativity that was far beyond expectation. The pizzas were then baked
for each child to taste before concluding the program.
