The greatest want
of the world…

As I was writing this, 2 out of the 23 Koreans who
went to Afghanistan to “offer” whatever help that they
can in the war-ravaged country have already been
killed by the Taliban - a Pastor and a 19-year old
young man. These 23 brave souls have been kidnapped
and held ransomed and will be killed in a matter of
days, probably weeks or months unless the US agree for
an exchange of prisoners.
There were differing opinions. Some say it is “God’s
will,” some even blame them for taking such a huge
risk; “what were they thinking, going there and doing
such voluntary work?” Others opted to be silent and in
their hearts were praying for the safety of these
individuals.
My heart was torn as I imagine the horrors that they
are facing; and then I read this passage in one of my
devotional books:
“The greatest want of the world is the want of men –
men who will not be bought or sold, men who in their
inmost souls are true and hones, men who do not fear
to call sin by its right name, men whose conscience is
as true to duty as the needle to the pole, men will
stand for the right though the heavens fall.” –Ellen
White.
These 23 young men and women are the examples of what
our world’s greatest need today!
